Striving For Balance

July 30th, 2011

As a professional musician he was always on the go. He had the talent and he had the drive but every time that big break was close at hand it was snatched away. Finally one agent was kind enough to give him the news straight. “Look, you’re great – we love what you’re doing – but your skin’s out of control and won’t sell records.”

Sure, many creative can look however they choose and who they are is who they are; but for those trying to make it into the arenas or on the screen, looks do matter. He wanted to be signed so badly, to him that was his barometer for success. And he had tried it all, been to doctors, tried topical creams but one piece of bad news or a week of junk food and his skin broke out.

Finally he came at his skin problems in a more holistic way…

Do the things I eat and drink affect me? YES.

Does stress play a role in my skin changes? YES.

Do I drink enough water? NO.

Do I exercise? NO.

Do I get adequate amounts of sleep? NO.

And he also realised he wasn’t feeding his skin properly, so he started taking vitamins for healthy skin.

Finding what works for us as individuals is tricky – it often takes a lot of trial and error, and untold amounts of coin. But the good news is that some things as simple and cost-effective as vitamins can help make a difference.

Jake worked at it and you’d never know he was once that spotty guy; and he finally got the big break of his dreams.

Natural Medicine

October 31st, 2010

Modern medicine has come a long way in helping us keep healthy and alive for longer. With the daily attacks on our health and immune system, caused by numerous diseases, the environment and also our typically unhealthy lifestyle, modern medicine has had to seriously quicken the pace to keep up, and it succeeded in doing so. In order to stand out as a respected science, however, Medicine had to cut its ties to traditional medicine, so the scientific method could prevail above simple popular knowledge. But nowadays a lot of people are looking to re-connect modern medicine with traditional medicine and get the best out of the two worlds. After all, who never had a chicken soup along with flu medication to help cure the disease faster? Not to mention the practical effects of alternative medicine like acupuncture or even practices like yoga and reiki. If we can somehow combine all that is good in all of these things with the advances of modern medicine we can take even more steps towards helping cure and prevent disease.
